A new trend is seeing groups of women set up alternative knitting groups, dubbed Stitch 'n' Bitch.
The idea is simple: women meet weekly in bars to knit, gossip and compare tricky patterns over a glass of wine.
While knitting has been fashionable for a while, with celebrity fans such as Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz, the growing ubiquity of Stitch 'n' Bitch circles mean they're the new book clubs for the middle class.
The no-nonsense moniker marks these out as craft groups for modern times. But, in fact, the term Stitch 'n' Bitch originated in World War II, when casual groups of knitters would socialise in cafes. dailymail
